As kids sitting in the classroom,
The days seemed to last forever,
The school year couldn’t be longer,
Ready to make that run to the river
Turning sixteen seemed so far,
Independence and freedom,
A driver’s license and then a car
Growing and not having a choice,
Becoming an adult at eighteen,
Finally I’ll have my voice
Living on the brink,
It would surely be fun,
To go out and drink,
If only to be twenty one
How the years have gone by,
Now I’m the parent,
Of the apple of my eye
